It is essential to choose a wetsuit which is appropriate for the water temperature and weather conditions. Kids winter wetsuits are fashioned from thicker neoprene than summer styles to provide the additional insulation required for colder water and cooler air temperatures. We have an excellent range of junior winter wetsuits here at Porthcawl Marine and these include styles from the Body Glove, ONeill, Sola and Typhoon collections.
When choosing a wetsuit for a youngster, as with adult suits, it is important to select the correct size. People succumb to hypothermia far more quickly when in the water as water conducts heat at a faster rate than the air. Wetsuits insulate the body via the nitrogen bubbles in the neoprene which conduct heat slowly by maintaining warm water between the suit and the skin. This warm water, which is heated by the body, can be flushed away quickly and replaced by cold water if the suit is too large. A suit which too small will be uncomfortable and restrict the child's movement. We have a handy guide to help you buy a wetsuit here.
Kids Winter wetsuits are fashioned from neoprene which is 4 or 5mm thick around the torso but thinner around the limbs. The thicker neoprene around the torso insulates the vital organs whilst the thinner neoprene affords the required freedom of movement for water sports.
We are sure that you will find a great wetsuit here at Porthcawl Marine.
